Bosnian school

ABOUT SCHOOL

The Bosnian School is a project of the Bosnian Islamic and Cultural Center (BICC), which is known from 2021. as the Bosnian Educational and Cultural Center of America (BECCA). The project was initiated in 2012. by Amina Sendić-Mešić, a professor of Bosnian language and literature.

This project is the only one of its kind in the United States that operates according to the program of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

INFO

More than a hundred students regularly attend the Bosnian School every year. Along with Amina, the school has been led by teacher Enisa Omerović since its inception.

They have implemented a large number of activities within the Bosnian School, and the fact that this project is accredited and licensed speaks to the seriousness with which they approach their work. The Consulate General of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Chicago, as well as the administration of this center, provide support for this project.

Since 2015, the entire curriculum has been aligned with the supplementary textbook for children abroad, intended for students from grades one to four of primary school. As a result, children in the Bosnian School learn everything that their peers in Bosnia and Herzegovina learn.

After the return of teacher Amina to Bosnia and Herzegovina, starting in 2022, teacher Sanela Ahmetović also teaches at the Bosnian School. Together with teacher Enisa, she continues with educational activities.

Since the Bosnian School takes place within the premises of the mosque, all participants in the school are subject to the dress code regulations applicable to the religious facility - the mosque.
